James 1:12

KJV - Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. (Byz)

NASV - Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (Aleph, B)

(“The Lord” is in the Byz manuscript but is missing in Aleph and B. NASV translators added it in italics.)


James 2:20

KJV - But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (Aleph, Byz)

NASV - But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? (B)


James 3:3

KJV - Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. (Byz)

NASV - Now if we put the bits into the horses' mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well. (Aleph, A, B)


James 3:6

KJV - And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. (Byz)

NASV - And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. (Aleph, B - probable)


James 3:9

KJV - Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. (Byz)

NASV - With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; (Aleph, A, B)


James 3:12

KJV - Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs?; so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. (Byz)

NASV - Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh. (A,B)


James 4:4

KJV - Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (Byz)

NASV - You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (Aleph,A,B)


James 4:11

KJV - Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. (Byz)

NASV - Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.  (Aleph, B - probable)


James 4:12

KJV - There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? (Byz)

NASV - There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor? (Aleph, B - probable)


James 5:16

KJV - Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (Byz)

NASV - Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. (Aleph, B - probable)


James 5:20

KJV - Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (Byz)

NASV - let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. (Aleph,A)
